Marathon program officially started…

Posted on May 20, 2009

The countdown to New York has begun and I’ve now started the official program – it’s an 18-week program but I’ve tagged on 5 or 6 weeks to give me a slower build up.

Yesterday was a 2 miler completed in 20 minutes and I’m just back from just over 3 miles in 31 minutes. Slight shin aches but nothing the hot tub won’t sort.

I was working in Worthing this morning in the lovely sunshine and now the run is done, I’m off to pick up Toby from nursery.

Tomorrow is another 2 miler and then I will head to the gym early before we fly to Ireland for the weekend.

As for little JUF – he’s coming along nicely…..

Will blog from Ireland after my 3 miler on Irish soil.

Plodding on……..

Fresh back from a lovely holiday in Jersey – just the three of us taking Grandma to her favourite place for her 90th birthday!!

She has more energy than all of us – I think I might make her run New York instead of me.

Training is going well but it will soon be time to put on the pressure and start pushing the mileage.

Gym was excellent yesterday as I didn’t think I could fit it in to my day but my job yesterday was at Kate Winslets house – photographing her new swimming pool for a brochure!! She wasn’t there and the staff gave me minutes rather than the afternoon I had imagined sipping cocktails with Kate!!

Anyway I made Bannatynes and had an excellent upper body workout before picking Toby up from Nursery.

Good run this morning with Frans – just a cheeky 2.5 miles in 25 minutes but good fun in the sun.

Gym again in the morning and then off to work.

JUF is in the workshop and his transformation is underway!

Plan is for him to be two-tone red and cream and signwritten with a retro version of my company logo!!

Take care,

Goodbye Guido – Hello JUF!!!!!

Posted on April 24, 2009

Sorry to say that running has taken a bit of a back seat this week due to a manic diary.

I’ve been working in the Houses of Parliament which has been fun but I don’t know how people do the London commute on a regular basis. I found it draining and was good for nothing by the time I settled into the armchair at home with a cold beer!

Got a 10k planned this weekend which I will probably do early Sunday morning before the coverage of the London Marathon starts which I intend to be glued to!

Good luck to Daza and all my Realbuzz pals.

Well little Guido departed the fleet this week and is as we speak, driving (I hope) all the way to Moray in Scotland to start a new life – hopefully Charlie his new owner will finish him off to be one of the best Fiat X1/9’s around.

I’d also like to introduce JUF – my new project – he’s a 1967 VW Split Screen Single Cab. Called JUF because of his number plate, he will affectionately be known as Juf the Magic Wagon!!

However there wasn’t much affection when his gear linkage broke in the first few yards of ownership and I had to call the AA. The joys of classic car ownership!!

Here he is alongside Tracey’s Bay Window bus – the artistic editing is to try and disguise the rust that currently holds JUF together!!

Will keep you updated on his restoration. Hopefully one day he will look like this……….

Off to the Big Bang VW show tomorrow at Santa Pod to get some inspiration and will report on my run on Sunday.

Great week – First Wedding….

Posted on April 04, 2009

Had a near perfect weeks training this week.

Started with a lower body workout and 20 lengths of the pool on Monday. Tuesday’s 2-miler was completed in 18:42 at an avg pace of 9:20.

Wednesday was upper body at Bannatynes followed by 10 lengths of the pool. Second 2-miler was completed in 18:29 at an avg pace of 9:15 – my fastest so far.

Friday was lower body again at the gym followed by 20 lengths.

Out last night for a barbecue with friends which was great – excellent food and lots of pasta ready for my 10k this morning.

Found it tough today but soon got into a rhythm – on the road by 7.30am and completed in 1:05:17 at an avg pace of 10:17

Can relax for the weekend now – have my first wedding of the season to photograph locally today at the Tythe Barn in Launton, one of my favourite venues.

http://www.thetythebarn.co.uk

Finishing when they sit down at 5pm so this evening Grandad is babysitting and we are going to see The Boat That Rocked.

Tomorrow I have two viewings of the X1/9 so fingers crossed it will sell and the new project can start!!

Take care,

Tez.

10k and the case of the poo in the hot tub!!

Posted on March 28, 2009

Not a bad training week this week.

Managed two trips to Bannatynes  so trained the whole body and did some swimming too.

This morning was my third 10k and talk about wind – the weather not me!!

Slightly slower than last week and completed in a time of 1:05:36 at a pace of 10.33 - Happy with that.

iPod was loaded exclusively with Metallica and that helped fight the wind!!

Third 10k - DONE

Third 10k - DONE

As for the poo in the hot tub incident – had friends Frans and Caitriona over on Thursday evening and Toby and their son Cian wanted to go in the tub before bedtime.

Toby in his excitement decided to drop a Richard the Third in the tub – so their dip was cut short!!

I have now had to drain the tub and clean it – hence the hosepipe in the above picture.

Off to “Up and Running” now with New York partner Richard who is having a gait analysis and buying some running toys….

Tracey is off to Geneva tomorrow with work and me and Tobes are heading to the Volksworld Show at Sandown Park.

Take care,

Tez.

I want to ride my Beer-cycle…

Posted on March 22, 2009

Great day on the bikes yesterday – plan was to have a pint at the first pub and then cycle to the next for another pint.

After 3 pints at the first pub I knew it was going to be a session!!

Excellent fun with a bit of exercise along the way. Finished up with a curry after the rugby and woke this morning with a very sore backside – not sure if it was due to the curry or my saddle!!

Had a great Mothers Day – Toby made Tracey a bracelet and we had a heart-shaped plate made with Toby’s handprints and a huge canvas photo of Tobes for the house.

Had a fab meal at The First Floor in Oxford http://www.thefirstfloor-restaurant.com

I did the photography for their website and absolutely love the place!!

An indulgent weekend – now it’s time to get back to the training!!

Sunny Day 10K

Posted on March 21, 2009

Busy week this week and training suffered a little.

Managed 2 visits to Bannatynes so trained the whole body plus tucked away 30 lengths of the pool following the workouts.

No shorter runs this week but am just back from a good 10k.

Beautiful sunny day with the iPod blaring all the way and managed it slightly faster than last week in 1:05:10 at a 10.28 pace.

Planning a perfect training and diet week next week so watch this space….

As for the rest of the weekend – I’m off on Craig’s birthday cycle/pub crawl -the “Tour De Farce” – around the villages finishing off watching the rugby and then out for a curry.

Will post pictures!!

So I’m glad I tucked my run away this morning as tomorrow might be a bit of a blur!!

Cheers,

Terry.

10k – in the bag…

Posted on March 14, 2009

Another good weeks training – a bit disjointed due to working long hours but managed to make all the sessions and ramp up the intensity.

Started the week with an upper body session followed by 10 lengths of the pool. Pushed my first 2-miler of the week and improved the pace to 9.49 completed in 19.42.

Had an good but short lower body workout late in the day on Wednesday followed by 20 lengths and managed to stay in the 9’s for the second 2-miler – 9.53 pace – 19mins 48secs.

Friday was the second upper body workout of the week followed by 10 lengths and a sauna.

Had friends Stan and Carol over for dinner last night and I cooked roast pork with fennel and chilli on my new toy – a Cobb barbecue. An amazing bit of kit – check out www.cobb-bbq.co.uk

Saw it on the Hairy Bikers show and had to have one. Enjoyed a glass and a half of Amerone but switched to soft drinks after that.

Right, now the big one……Up at 7am this morning and straight out on the 10k. Had to wait about five minutes for my Garmin to pick up a signal but was soon on my way.

Settled into a good pace and completed the distance in 1.06.38 at a pace of 10.43.  So I’m a happy boy.

I’m off to chill out in the hot tub now and then we are off to buy a few more fish for Toby’s tank as he only has two catfish at the moment. Might grab some breakfast too as it’s so good at Wyvale Bicester.

Other news from the Lee camp is that my wonderful piece of ’80s motoring history – my Fiat X1/9 was painted this week. Squeezed in behind an Aston Martin – it has emerged in a brilliant Aston Martin Tungsten finish!!

Tonight we have our pals Bryn and Jenny over and continuing the pork theme – I’m cooking Jamie Oliver’s Porcetta – one of my favourite dishes.

Take care folks,

Tez.

Shoe Fetish….

Posted on March 07, 2009

Good week this week – Tracey had a bonus and treated me to two pairs of shoes – a cracking pair of North Face Hedgehogs and a new pair of Asics 1140’s for my running.

The 1140’s replace my faithful 1120’s that have now been retired from road work.

All went to plan this week and started with a leg session in the gym followed by 20 lengths of the pool. Tuesday was my two-miler completed in just over 20 minutes at a 10.19 pace.

Wednesday was an excellent upper body session followed by 10 lengths at Bannatynes. Thursday was the second 2-miler of the week run at a 10.01 pace – got to break into the 9’s next week on these short runs.

Friday was lower body at the gym followed by 20 lengths in the pool.

Out last night at friends and had a great time – I was the driver so enjoyed a glass of bubbly but stuck to the soft stuff.

This morning was my LSR so got up at 6.30am and headed out on the planned 5-miler.

Beautiful morning, nice and quiet apart from my iPod blaring out everything from U2 to the Pulp Fiction soundtrack!

Anyway 5.18 miles in 55.59 at 10.48 pace – so I am well pleased with that. Will try out a 10k next Saturday for my LSR and then I’ll be well on my way to preparing for the London 10,000 on May 25th.

Off now to buy a few fish for Toby’s tank followed by a bit of breakfast – I think I’ve earned it today.

Tonight we are out for dinner with friends so I might have a glass or two as they are driving – hooray!!!

Cheers for now.

Tez.
